{"id":103,"date":"2019-11-16T01:12:44","date_gmt":"2019-11-16T01:12:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/?p=103"},"modified":"2019-11-16T01:12:44","modified_gmt":"2019-11-16T01:12:44","slug":"november-12-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/2019\/11\/16\/november-12-15\/","title":{"rendered":"November 12-15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Though short, this was a busy week!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-105 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/FA736DAD-F1A8-4A3E-825D-01450400C55E-300x224.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" \/>In Math, we worked on understanding and manipulating large numbers based on data from the FIFA Women&#8217;s World Cup.\u00a0 We worked in teams again, writing on vertical non-permanent surfaces of windows and white boards, with the goal of communicating our math thinking more clearly.\u00a0 We had team speakers, writers and inquirers, so that each group member had a specific role to fill.<\/p>\n<p>We practiced serving &#8220;feedback sandwiches&#8221; (compliment, suggestion, compliment) in editing one another&#8217;s writing.\u00a0 Earlier in the week, I shared my story as an example, and the class offered my suggestions on how to make it more dynamic and interesting.\u00a0 Today, the class worked on their own stories and assembled &#8220;sandwiches&#8221; for others if they were finished.\u00a0 Some students have taken their long drafts of their stories home to work on them this weekend for homework.<\/p>\n<p>In Social, we had a pop quiz on the roles of the different levels of government.\u00a0 Everyone did very well!<\/p>\n<p>In Science, we assembled and labeled skeletons, and began drawing those of our creatures.\u00a0 The creatures we have created have the same body systems as humans, but in different shapes and sizes &#8211; students must demonstrate understanding of the human body in order to reflect the systems in their imaginary creatures.\u00a0 If you are looking for a (slightly annoying but very memorable) song to help memorize the names of the bones, check out this fun song:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Skeletal System Rap Song - &quot;I Got Bones&quot;\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ja18CbJU6h8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-107  alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/1EF15ECF-72EE-42AD-ADF5-B228644FDC71-e1573866218611-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"249\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In our Restorative Justice session on Wednesday, we had a very important discussion on conflict.\u00a0 We learned an\u00a0iceberg metaphor for all that we don&#8217;t see below the surface of conflict.\u00a0 Next week, we will revisit this concept to learn more about conflict resolution.<\/p>\n<p>We were very lucky to have a special guest at Glenwood this week, for woodworking sessions.\u00a0 Caitlin Bilton lead every class through building beautiful bamboo wind chimes!\u00a0 <strong>Huge thanks to our parent volunteers<\/strong> for assisting with the drilling, sanding and assembling.\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-104 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/D9B22F83-4F2E-4B2F-96C4-F8E687623758-e1573866640845-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-106 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/andersonm\/files\/2019\/11\/39583B20-274B-44F5-A886-7A526B0EA8A7-300x289.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Art today, we began creating\u00a0group murals inspired by Emily Carr and Group of Seven paintings, and where we live.\u00a0 We ran out of time to actually begin painting these works, which will become backgrounds for self portraits, but we sketched out plenty of cedar and pine trees, mountains, and water bodies.\u00a0 More colour to come&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Though short, this was a busy week!
