Measurement- Length and Height

Posted on May 12, 2026

In Math, we started a unit on measurement. We will learn how to measure length, width, height, weight, and volume. The students will learn about direct comparative measurement (i.e. compare two items to see which one is longer than, shorter than, equals to) and using nonstandard uniform items to measure (i.e. using unifix cubes to measure the length of the table).

First, we will focus on length and height. We learned that when we measure the length of something, we want to know how long or short it is. For height, we want to know how tall or short something is. The students had a blast measuring things around the classroom using unifix cubes.

Challenge activities to try at home:

What can you measure at home? What will you use to measure that item?
Pick two items and compare which one is longer and which one is shorter.
