We continue to learn about pumpkins through various activities in many subject areas. Take a look at some of the activities we have done at school!
Learning “I’m a Little Pumpkin” and “Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate” song/poem for the assembly. Please have your child continue practicing these two song/poem for the Halloween assembly (Oct. 31 at 9 am). Families are welcome to come to the assembly.
Pumpkin sink or float experiment:
Our hypothesis, “Do pumpkins sink or float in water?” was investigated. Before doing the experiment, we made a hypothesis (educated guess) of what will happen to a pumpkin when put into a bucket of water. We found out that pumpkins float in water!
Provocation table:
At our provocation table, students had the opportunity to use a magnifying glass to help them observe and draw a pumpkin. Their observations were drawn on paper and sent home.
Pumpkin sponge art:
Division 16’s pumpkins are sitting on a gate just like the “Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate.” The students used tempura paint and sponges to create a sponge like texture for the pumpkins.
Extension activity:
Can you make Jack-o-lanterns (pumpkin with a face) using a cut apple as a stamp? Tempura paint works well for stamping.
