Ted Harrison was a Canadian artist (1926-2015) that created beautiful paintings inspired by the colours and culture of Yukon Territory.
Here are some examples of his work:
The students then read a book, A Northern Alphabet, by Ted Harrison. In this book, they viewed many beautiful illustrations of landscapes created by Ted Harrison.
Next, we learned about warm colours vs. cool colours.
Warm colours include red, orange, and yellow.
Cool colours include green, blue, purple, and white.
The students learned how Ted Harrison used mainly cool colours to create the ground while the warm colours were used to create the sky.
After the art lesson, students created their own northern landscapes inspired by Ted Harrison.
