Gingerbread House notice – Icing for December 16<\/p>\n

December 07, 2022<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Dear Families,<\/strong><\/p>\n Our classes will be making gingerbread houses for a winter craft on Friday, December 16. \u00a0Your child will need to bring a 15 cm x 20 cm cardboard base covered in tinfoil for their house and a batch of Royal Icing (see: recipe below). This icing can also be purchased at most bakeries, or you can purchase a Wilton Royal Icing Mix Kit (some additional ingredients are needed) at Michaels. While I will supply some candies for decorating, your child can also bring some more.\u00a0 Please label your child\u2019s supplies and check to make sure they are nut-free.<\/strong><\/p>\n If for any reason you are not able to purchase the items mentioned above, please let me know and the school will take care of it. No student will miss out on this opportunity to celebrate the winter holidays!<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Thank you,<\/strong><\/p>\n Mrs. Klassen<\/strong><\/p>\n Ms. Wong<\/strong><\/p>\n ROYAL ICING RECIPE<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n 3 cups (750 mL) icing sugar<\/strong><\/p>\n 2 large egg whites<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00bd teaspoon vinegar (to create shiny effect)<\/strong><\/p>\n Sift icing sugar into bowl. Beat in egg whites until icing is thick enough to hold its shape (7-10 min.). Add vinegar half-way through beating. The beating is very important. The icing should be creamy, but too stiff to drip from the spoon. If it\u2019s too thick, add more egg white.
