Ms. Wise – Division 3 Classroom Blog

For the past few weeks Div. 3 has been working on designing an advertisement for a business in Burnaby. The business we were assigned to was The Valley Bakery. Students had various criteria they had to follow and include on their advertisement and the rest of the design was up to them. Their ad has a chance of being chosen and featured in an upcoming edition of the BurnabyNOW. It was an exciting project for our class to be a part of! Check out their uniquely designed ads below.

As part of our science curriculum this term, we are learning about the wonders of our solar system and the universe. As explained in class, your task is to find a topic about space that interests you to base your research off of. All the detailed instructions are in the booklet handed out in class.

Rememeber, we are just learning about referencing sources and giving credit to places and people that we have borrowed information from. There will not be any serious consequences as mentioned in the handout. If it happens, you will have to simply re-wirte parts of your writing so that it is paraphrased into your own words.

Your project must include a written portion of some sort. We are working on informational writing, so you will need to hand in written paragraphs with research about your topic. We will have plently of class time to work on this, but if you are not using class time wisely, you may need to do some parts of your project at home.

Project Proposal: Due Monday, Feburary 13th

Overall Project: Due date to be announced

ADST Race Day

Last week we finally got a chance to race our racecar creations that students have been intently working on. All racecars were built from random materials that were collected from home or that were in our classroom. It was a lot of fun setting up the ramp, watching the racecars slide across the room, and measuring their distances. Way to go Div. 3!

For the Winter Concert, Division 3 created gingerbread houses made out of cardboard. Students designed their houses on their own from start to finish. They started with creating measurements for each part of their structure and doing a test run using regular paper. Once their houses passed the test, they moved onto carefully cutting out pieces of cardboard. After assembling their houses, students added various decorations to resemble the candy on a traditional gingerbread house. The final display truly looked like a real gingerbread village!

A big thank you to Mrs. Walji for volunteering her time in our classroom to help with our house construction!

This week, Div. 3 has been working on writing Remembrance Day paragraphs.

Students had various writing prompts they used to come up with informative, persausive, or narrative paragraphs.

A big thank you to some helpful volunteers in our class for changing our hallway display. Our board has been getting a lot of attention and visitors stopping by to read our writing.

Amazing work Division 3!
