The Français Langue Seconde program is at the heart of the immersion program and aims to place the student in learning situations in a Francophone context. These situations will allow them to acquire the skills, knowledge and strategies necessary to communicate and interact in French effectively and with confidence. Students will develop their language skills in French and discover the richness and diversity of Francophone cultures and works. Through this program of study, the student follows a continuum allowing them to progress while benefiting from the achievements of the previous years.

Big Ideas:

  1. The choice of verbal and non-verbal language conveys the intentions of the speaker.
  2. Awareness of the values conveyed leads to a better understanding of the cultural content.
  3. To deepen the understanding of a text requires to reveal the implicit and explicit information.
  4. The speaker, by organizing his ideas and relying on various sources, supports his point of view and influences the recipient.
  5. Literature, taken in context, contributes to changing one’s perception of a society.

Core Competencies:

Teaching and learning in this course will focus on the six Core Competencies according to the district and provincial curriculum guidelines. These 6 basic skills are:

  1. Communication – How students exchange information, experiences, and ideas.
  2. Creative Thinking – How students generate new ideas and take them from thought to reality.
  3. Critical Thinking – How students make judgements based on reasoning and available information.
  4. Positive Personal & Cultural Identity – How students create healthy personal and cultural awareness in a pluralistic society.
  5. Personal Awareness & Responsibility – How students develop awareness of skills and strategies to stay healthy, both physically and mentally.
  6. Social Responsibility – How students contribute positively to their families, community, society, and the environment.
