Welcome to our Class Blog!

Hello Division 5 Families!

Welcome to our classroom blog for this year!  We will be using it periodically to keep you up to date with classroom news and exciting events that take place at school.

We really enjoyed having the opportunity to briefly meet with you all during our September Welcoming Conversations and other casual meetings thus far!  We’d like to thank-you for checking planners, sending supplies, and completing forms so promptly.  Our routines have all fallen into place nicely with your support.

We are excited about an exciting year of learning and growing together this year in Division 5!

Belcarra Field Trip

Thank-you to all of our parent volunteers and to our amazing student hikers for a great day out at Belcarra today!  We hiked 3.6km round trip to Admiralty Point, where we enjoyed a rest on a typical British Columbia beach.  Along the way, we studied the temperate rainforest and made connections to our Social Studies learning about local First Nations groups.  We learned about nurse logs and the story of the mice hiding in the Douglas Fir cones.  Ask your children to share the story with you.  What a great day of learning about our beautiful British Columbia Coast!

ADST in action!

We have had the unique opportunity this week to partake in a woodworking workshop with guest teachers from a Burnaby high school.  We have learned to plan, design, and create our art projects on scroll saws!  The students had to persist through the challenges and maintain a growth mind-set to get the job done. It was a great success for them!

Thank-you for Making a Difference!

Congratulations Division 5 students and families!  Our school community came out to see your hard work and it was very well received!  You shared your Making a Difference Projects with pride and inspired many other children and adults to get out there and make a difference.  We are very proud of you and your efforts and you should be too!

Way to go!

Welcome to our Artist in Residence!

Today was our first session with our artist in residence, Mrs. Yunuen Perez-Verti.  We will have several sessions with her over the next few weeks as we begin this learning journey into film-making.  It is so inspiring to be working with an accomplished film-maker!

March Memories

March was an active, memorable month with many enrichment opportunities happening within our classroom and in the wider school community.  We were busy visiting the Vancouver Aquarium, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at the Orpheum Theatre, and singing at Primary Days of Music.  Here are a few pictures highlighting some of those activities.

We hope everyone has had a restful, yet fun-filled Spring Break and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Winter has arrived in Div. 5!

It has been a great two days of Winter Poetry presentations!  The students have had a chance to practice their public speaking skills in a fun and light-hearted way.  We have had snowflakes falling around the classroom, bunnies bouncing in – literally, beautiful drawings and books added to our bookcase, and a very large snowman named “Bob” came to visit.

Christmas Cheer

Division 5 was busy during the last week of school enjoying traditional holiday activities with their buddies and each other.  We decorated gingerbread cookies, made gingerbread houses, and enjoyed hearing the school Choir sing at Burnaby Village Museum.

Have a look at all of our festive fun!
