April 26,

Hello everyone,  I would like you to do an assignment on Oscar Peterson and Hymn to Freedom.   Due May 4

Choose one activity from  the following.

  • Respond to Hymn to Freedom using one of the choices from the listening activities listed in the Listening tab.
  • Read about  Oscar Peterson and write a one paragraph summary of his life.  Focus on what you think is the most important information.
  • Record yourself singing Hymn to Freedom and send the recording to me.
  • Write a paragraph on the message of the lyrics and why you believe they are important and relevant today.

Music Monday is coming up on May 4.  The song this year is Hymn to Freedom by Oscar Peterson.  Many of you know this song.  We learned it a couple of years ago for Remembrance Day and it was the massed number at the Intermediate Choir Festival last year.  On May 4th young people all across Canada will join in the singing of Hymn to Freedom.  I hope Buckingham students will join in.

Here is a link with lyrics to practice Hymn to Freedom.

Oscar Peterson wrote the music.  He is a well-known Canadian jazz pianist and composer from Montreal.  Oscar Lives Next Door is a story inspired by Oscar Peterson’s life.

Listening Tracks and Activities have been moved to the Listening post.

Go there to see this weeks selection.

Please send me a picture of your your listening response and I will post them on the Gallery page.  I will not show your name or Division.  Send them to Faith.Veikle@burnabyschools.ca
