The Junior Rugby Team is nearing the end of their season and so far have shown a lot of promise for the future of Rugby at Burnaby Central. \u00a0They recently revenged a close loss to Lord Byng by defeating them in an exciting overtime win in the Lower Mainland 7s Tournament. \u00a0The team also defeated Kitsilano High School in an exciting game by a score of 34 to 33.\u00a0 The Team then lost to a very strong team in McRoberts from Richmond. \u00a0The game was very close at the start but after a few injuries, the team fell behind at the end. \u00a0They were able to revenge this loss on May 7 by defeating McRoberts 33 to 19 at our home field.\u00a0 On this day, the\u00a0team was led by veterans like Kenny Cai, returning players like Mac Burns, and rookies like Trevor Lougheed who demonstrated a\u00a0textbook tackle that helped cement the game for us (see photos below).\u00a0With the help of former grads and current players at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club, Liem Jung and Admir Cejvanovic, the team has continually improved especially in our contact and team play.\u00a0Unfortunately, in our last game the team came up against a very strong side in\u00a0Carson Graham in the Vancouver District Semi Final on May 13.<\/p>\n

Team point leaders are:\u00a0Kenny Cai\u00a04 tries 3 converts (26 pts), Trevor Lougheed\u00a04\u00a0T (20 pts.), Mac Burns 4\u00a0T (20 pts), Ansel Hait\u00a02 T (10 pts), Myles Molla 1\u00a0T (5 pts),\u00a0 Calvin Watts 1T (5 pts), Kenzo Racanelli 1 T (5 pts), Austin Arotta 4 converts (8 pts).\u00a0 Team award winners were Best Forward – Mac Burns, Aiden Bate-Smith, Best Back – Kenny Cai, Top Rookies (back) Trevor Lougheed, (forward) Ansel Hait.<\/p>\n

Vancouver East U16\u00a0PRC tryouts (birthyears 1998-1999):<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saturday May 24 from 10am to 1pm at Burnaby Lake Rugby Club. The Vancouver East U15<\/strong>\u00a0training details (Gr. 9s)\u00a0for PRCs on June 28-29 at UBC\u2019s Wolfson Fields.\u00a0At John Oliver Park Thursdays May 29, and June 5,12, 19. Practices will also run June 23 ,24, 25 and 26 in build up to the tournament. All sessions are from 630 pm until 8pm at John Oliver Park in Delta.<\/p>\n
