Our Class Promise!

Before winter break, we spent a lot of time talking about the class community we want to create together. We began with a question: How do we want to feel in our class? The children agree that they want to feel: “happy,” “excited,” “safe,” “loved,” and “hopeful.”

As citizens of our class, we all have rights and responsibilities. If this is how we want to feel at school, how can we help one another? What do we need to do to make sure everyone feels this way in our class?

The children had so many thoughtful ideas! We discussed our ideas and grouped them to highlight what is most important to us. With this in mind, we have created our class promise:
• Be safe
• Give the gift of attention
• Help each other
• Play together

• Be welcoming and kind
• Learn and use our imagination
• Be a leader

The children have also represented these ideas through drawings:

We have all signed our class promise as a symbol of our commitment to one another. Our class promise will hang proudly in our classroom all year as a meaningful reminder!

BIG IDEA: Rights, roles and responsibilities shape our identity and help us build healthy relationships with others.

    1. We have been eager to share our class promise with you for a while, but waited because we wanted to make sure everyone had the chance to be included. This is the first week we have all been together in a long time, so we finally hung it up on our wall! 🙂

  1. Thank you for sharing this. Abeer was reciting the class promise today. He remembers it well.
