Happy New Year 2020!!
I hope you all had a great break!
With our buddies in Divisions 1 and 3 we created these lovely hats which we mounted onto coloured construction paper. We then cut around the hats making sure that we left a border of construction paper showing.
These are on the bulletin board outside in our hallway.
Our Snow Families
When you come to the Christmas concert tomorrow, check out our art pieces on the bulletin board outside of the classroom. We spent several days, in many stages, creating representations of our families as snow people. Here they are:
Gingerbread Houses
We had a great afternoon today building our gingerbread houses. Students worked on skills such as planning, structures, and decoration. Students also showed their incredible generosity as they freely shared resources amongst themselves.

All About Me Robots / My Name
As we are wrapping up our unit on self-discovery we have finished off the last two activities. The first was our All About Me Robots. Students needed to decide and state their preferences in a number of different areas.
The second activity was putting together all the bits about our names. This included the sheet that was sent home for family input.
Our bulletin board did not manage to accommodate all of this work so we have some mounted on our white board underneath our Word Wall.
Who Am I?
As part of our Social Studies unit we have been exploring our sense of self. Students created these wonderful word and picture maps that depict themselves and things that are important to them.
They worked very thoughtfully and put in a great effort to ensure a very fine finished product! Here they are individually:

After discussing Thanksgiving, and all that it means, we brainstormed things that we are thankful for. Students worked in partnerships to create these lovely thoughts.

Nutrition – Four Food Groupings
We wrapped up our unit on Nutrition with a small group collage project. Students worked in groups of four or five to cut pictures from grocery flyers to represent the foods in their category. These were glued onto chart paper and are seen below:
The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss
After reading The Lorax, we brainstormed ideas that the Once-ler should have done to protect the environment and nature. Devastation happened to the area because of the Once-ler’s greed. Students then chose one of our ideas, or wrote one of their own. These were written onto Truffula tree templates. All of these can now be seen on the bulletin board in the hallway,
Yertle, the Turtle – and a few friends
As part of our unit on Dr. Seuss we looked at a variety of real turtle shells online. Students then created and designed their own turtle shells (top and bottom) out of paper plates. These turtles are now gracing our bulletin board in our classroom.
