My apologies for the missing posts as my computer was having some difficulties lately.

We have moved well into event management with a trip to the convention centre, guest speakers from the industry and a wedding planning assignment. I also gave out our new textbook: “Supervision in the Hospitality Industry”, which we will start next class.

A couple of overdue items should be finished off next class/before Spring Break:

• Media & medical consent forms handed in
• Serving it Right -this will expire, so do it before it does
• Review Game assignment
• Convention field trip assignment handout
• Open House Event assignment handout

Moving forward: 

• Wedding planning assignment (/50) does not have a due date until later in term 3 TBA, because I would like you to put a good amount of effort into planning this event 
• ****Make sure you take your new textbook home with you over the Break!***

Now that the exam is done, we are moving forward with event planning and our next textbook on Supervision. First up, we have our field trip to the Convention Centre next Tuesday (Mar.3)- please send me your field trips forms via email as they were due today and I am still missing some. Also next week is our Open House (Mar.5th at 12:45). Students are expected to put on this event, taking on a role in the planning and execution of the event. We continued our notes on event planning today and will continue on Monday along with finalizing roles and plans. You definitely don’t want to miss this!

Last reminder of our term 2 cutoff tomorrow. You may submit missing work until 8 pm tomorrow. If you have not finished Serving it Right, you have until Sunday night to get credit for term 2 marks.

Tomorrow is your final exam. Please bring a calculator, pencil and eraser. Feel free to email me with any questions you have. There will also be a brief Q&A period before the exam if you have any last minute questions.

Term cutoff is this Friday, so please get all work in before midnight. If you still have not completed Serving it Right, you can have until Sunday night at 8pm as I receive notification directly from Responsible Service BC. Any students who didn’t get a chance to play their review game yet, we will complete them tomorrow and Thursday.

Please also remember to get in your field trip forms and consent forms (media and medical).

Today we continued with our events unit and did an event scavenger hunt. We also had time to work on our review games (which are due next class) and we did some review in class.

Your final exam is in one week on Feb. 25th. You should be working on the review package that I gave out last week, going over old quizzes, chapter review questions and if you are going to read any of the textbook, I would recommend reading through the chapter summaries and the vocabulary.

I am also missing several media/medical consent forms for your program files. At the same time, you can have your parent/guardian sign your field trip forms. Please get these in ASAP!!! Thank you!

Last day of class before the long weekend!

Today we had our chapter 12-17 test and we started our events unit.

A bunch of dates to remind you of:

• Serving it Right is due next class (Feb. 18)- access through Responsible Service BC. You should have received an email inviting you to write the final exam and then I automatically get a message when you successfully complete it. If you did not get an email, please let me know ASAP.
• Consent forms for Media & Medical need to be in ASAP
• Field trip forms for our Mar3 trip to the convention centre are due back Feb28th
• Review games are due next week on Thursday, Feb20th
• Final exam is Tuesday, Feb25th
• Term cutoff is Thursday, Feb28th
• Open house event is Thursday, Mar5th

My apologies for not posting from last class as I was away. We did the chapter 17 quiz and a review package was given out to help you prepare for the upcoming final exam on Feb. 25th. Time was also given to work on the review game assignment which is due Feb.20th.

Today, I brought in home-made board games and we did round robin play time on teams. The review questions used were from chapters 12-17 in preparation for your test this Thursday, Feb. 13th. I also gave time to work on the exam review package that was given last day. Finally, I announced a field trip to the Vancouver Convention Centre on March 3rd. The paperwork was handed out today. Please have it signed and returned by Feb. 27th.

Other:

• I am still waiting for the media/medical consent forms to be signed and returned. These are needed for your files ASAP
• Term 2 cutoff is Feb. 27th
• There will be an open house event during class on March 5th. This is a student-organized event so students will be assigned tasks and evaluated. More details to come.

Today, I assigned chapters for the review game assignment. If you were absent, you will need to see me to get your chapters next day. We did not do the chapter 17 quiz, so that will take place next class. Also, please bring your consent forms ASAP.

Last post in January!

Today we finished the last chapter in our first textbook! No homework was assigned for this as we spent the rest of class working on Serving-it-Right. Some students already attempted the certificate exam for it. If you are wanting to write the exam for this over the weekend, send me an email and I will “invite” you to write it using the course dashboard. The Serving-it-Right course should be successfully completed by February 13th.

I handed out a 2-document package of health/media consent forms to be filled in and signed. Please fill these out and have them signed by your parent/guardian for Monday. Even if you think that you already completed these forms when you applied to the program, I have been asked to request them again to ensure that every student has one and we don’t miss anyone.

Those of you that have not completed the Foundations of Workplace Safety course online through go2hr.ca, you have until next Thursday, February 6th to complete it. Otherwise, I will give an alternate safety test for your work experience file.

Today we continued with chapter 17 and the ethical issues in tourism & hospitality. We will finish the chapter next class. We worked in the computer lab in the afternoon on the “Serving it Right” online course.
