Hello everyone,<\/p>\n

November has arrived, and with it comes another exciting month of learning.\u00a0 We are in the middle of term 1, and students are busy with projects, teams, volunteering, and of course, learning.\u00a0 School is in full swing!\u00a0 Please scroll to the bottom of the post for upcoming important dates and events.<\/p>\n

We are just about half way through our unit on operations in Math.\u00a0 We have been learning about factors, multiples, and divisibility rules.\u00a0 Next, we will be focusing on applying the different operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to larger whole numbers, decimal numbers, and integers (grade 7).\u00a0 Some students are still learning their basic multiplication and division math facts.\u00a0 Please continue to practice those at home to help build fluency.<\/p>\n

This month in Social Studies, we will be learning about different types of government from around the world.\u00a0 We will start by reviewing government in Canada and the roles and responsibilities of governments.\u00a0 Next, we will examine and compare various types of governments and the ways they support and protect human rights.\u00a0 To conclude the unit, students will apply the Social Studies research process while researching a country.<\/p>\n

In mid-November, we will be starting our second Book Club of the year.\u00a0 The theme for this round is Global Voices<\/em>, giving students the opportunity to explore contemporary stories featuring unique characters set in diverse cultures and countries from around the world.\u00a0 The books will enrich and complement our learning in Social Studies by helping students develop a deeper understanding of different perspectives, experiences, and cultures.<\/p>\n

This month in ELA, we will be switching gears from fiction writing to non-fiction writing.\u00a0 We will be practicing paragraph writing, organizing ideas, and creating longer pieces of non-fiction writing.\u00a0 Students will work in groups to write a non-fiction book about a human body system using Book Creator and present their books to the class.<\/p>\n
