What are we learning?

We have officially started term 3!

Here you can find a quick snapshot into what we are learning in each subject. If you require further details please feel free to email me.

Language Arts:

In term 3 we will be finishing up our Speeches and presenting them! Along with this, we will be completing another essay, as well as doing an independent novel study and focusing on some poetry. This term we really want to focus on bringing all the skills we have learned this year together and fine-tuning them. Along with this, we will be focusing more on specific grammar and reading comprehension skills.

Math: We have started fractions! In term we will learn…

-Geometry (2D and 3D shapes, angles, area, perimeter and volume)

-Graphing

-Probability

-Financial literacy

Science: In term 3 we will be learning about Chemical reactions and body science.

Health: We are currently wrapping up our boundaries unit and will be going into personal values and how they impact friendships and boundaries. After this we will go into bullying, being a bystander, conflict-resolution, and what makes a good friend.

Along with this, we will also be touching on Digital Literacy. Specifically, not believing everything we see and how to think critically in order to formulate our own opinions. In order to do this, we will be looking at media biases, AI, and some tricks of the internet!

Social Studies: In term 3 we have been learning about the Federal government, the election process, and how to pass a bill. Students have created their own bills and will be completing a project where they must write an essay, as well as put together a powerpoint or video in order to convince others why their bill should be passed.

After this project, students will learn some of the following:

-NGO’s/IGO’s/Alliances

-Natural resources in Canada/population density and pollution/sustainability

Along with this, students have completed their Heritage Fair research and will now be creating their bibliography, poster board, and presenting to the judges.

Career Ed: Students will continue practicing their self-assessment skills by reviewing their work habits and goals throughout the term. Along with this, students will have opportunities to show leadership ability and practice these within our group work and little buddy activities.

-This term we will be focusing more on employability skills and careers. We will be starting our emailing project, as well as looking into different career options they could pursue one day. We will also be talking about volunteering, resume’s, and application forms.

-This term we are so lucky to have paired up with Division 4 for a green team initiative! We have created skits and posters which we will present to each class. We are focusing on our school-wide initiative to pack-in and pack-out! Along with this, we will be cleaning up our school to keep it litter free.

ADST: In term 3, ADST will be closely tied to Career ed (emails) and health (digital literacy). Along with this, students will be creating their own coding project. Students will also complete another sculpting project.

If we have time, we will also do a mini cooking unit together focusing on healthy food options and measurements.

Art: In term 3, students will be completing more sketch artwork, as well as sculpting.

French: If you have any questions about what your child is learning, please let me know and I will reach out to their French teacher for you.
