Nature Kids BC, paper tubes and Parenting place.

Good Thursday Afternoon!

v  NatureKids BC is hosting a virtual conversation and they would like to discuss how families access the benefits of nature and what could support families to enjoy nature. This is an open community conversation and participating families receive a gift from NatureKids BC! If you would like to attend this Conversation of Equity with NatureKids BC on June 15th at 630 PM- 730 PM, register here.

v  Games with our children don’t have to be complicated! Paper tubes (from paper towel, toilet paper, or posters) have a lot of potential. Taping tubes together and rolling balls through is a simple and highly engaging game for little ones curious about hiding smaller objects in larger objects or are curious about the different components of toys or objects. Taping two rolls together make for a quick set of binoculars for a game of eye spy. Adding some rice or dried lentils and taping off the top and bottom with tin foil make a little shaker! Set out a basket of tubes and see what your little one comes up with.

v  For more children’s activities, parenting tips and self-care ideas, make sure to check out the Parenting Place Blog!

Good Morning – Hard to believe that April is almost over!

v  I wanted to share an amazing recipe for Giant Bubbles that a Strong Start Facilitator shared with her families and with me on one of my visits!

o   6 cups of warm water

o   ½ cup of Blue Dawn original dishwashing detergent

o   1 TBSP of corn syrup (or glycerin, if you happen to have some)

Mix all of the ingredients gently. Here is the secret: The bubble liquid gets better the longer it sits! It should marinate overnight at least. The solution gets better with age and should last a while! Tip: just dip wand into the solution, don’t stir or swish – it creates small bubbles and stops working. Enjoy!

v  Join the Burnaby Festival of Learning from May 7th – May 11th this year! This festival is free and for all ages! Bring your curiosity as you and your family explore a rich array of cultural, natural and city spaces with fun-filled experiences. Check out the attached poster for more information or click here.

v   The Power of Play – Book a Wednesday morning one-on-one play session with me, Anita – Enjoy a private play space with your little one as I coach and model child-led play, establishing healthy boundaries, turn taking and so much more with parents/caregivers and their child.
