Foodie Friday Feb. 26

[metaslider id=707]

Another culinary success! Please see our baked potato recipe below. Thank you to Andrea, Rakiia, Jerry Z. and Ryffa for another tasty treat!

Perfect Baked Potatoes

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Wash and dry the potatoes.  Prick each one with a fork a few times to ensure the moisture can escape during cooking and they do not explode.
  3. Put the potatoes on a baking sheet and bake for 1 to 1.5 hours.  They are ready when the skins are crisp and the insides are soft.  Push a fork in to check.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

Toppings we added:

  • shredded Cheddar cheese
  • cooked bacon bits (thank you Mrs. Woff for taking the time to do this at home)
  • chopped green onions
  • butter
  • plain yogurt

Foodie Fridays are Back!

Back in Division 3… by popular demand… Foodie Fridays!

Most Fridays from now until the end of the year small groups of students in both grades will help to support one of our classmates in his learning goals by planning a healthy treat, going shopping at IGA for the necessary ingredients, cooking or baking the treat back at the school and sharing it with the class.  Yum! Our first treat, for Valentine’s Day, was ice cream with Real Raspberry Ripple sauce on top. Recipe is below.

Real Raspberry Ripple

Ingredients:

  • 1lb (450g) fresh or frozen raspberries (defrosted if frozen)
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons superfine (caster) sugar
  • vanilla ice cream
  • strainer or sieve

Method:

  1. Put the strainer / sieve over a saucepan and tip in just over half of the raspberries.  Squash them with the back of a spoon, pushing them through the strainer to that all the juice is squeezed out into the pan and the seeds (pips) are left behind in the strainer.
  2. Add the sugar to the pan and stir it into the juice.  Ask an adult to help you heat it gently, over low heat, stirring all the time until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Stir in the rest of the whole raspberries.
  4. Serve hot or warm over vanilla ice cream.

Thank you Jerry Z., Giovanni and David for preparing our first tasty treat!

A Christmas Carol 2015

[metaslider id=637]

Thank you so much to everyone who made Chaffey-Burke Elementary’s production of A Christmas Carol a resounding success!  The grade 7s from all four classes worked particularly hard in their various roles to ensure the play was the best it could possibly be. A super-duper-special thank you to Mr. Sheldon Wong, Mr. Norman Wong, and Ms. Isabel Chang-Joa for their amazing photography and videography.  We are so lucky at Chaffey-Burke to have such wonderful family support to capture the magic of our special events in this way. Below are links to see some photographs from the various shows, video to be added too.  Enjoy!

Eportfolios

It has been a while since an update, but Division 3 has been very busy on a variety of projects.  All students have an e-portfolio they are using to keep a log of their learning and to reflect on what they have done and what is coming up.  All parents have access to their child’s eportfolio using their email up to the @ sign, and the same password as their child.  For example:

Parent email: frogsarecool@gmail.com

Username: frogsarecool

Password: word2016 (nearly all passwords follow this format)

Feel free to comment on anything you read in the eportfolio, your child and I both would love to hear your feedback.

Students have learned how to attach photos of their work (although I think we need to practice to improve clarity and focus) and will be learning how to attach video.  Since we are starting to learn our Pink Acceptance dance, this is an example of something you might see.  Enjoy!

Back to school 2015!

Hello everyone!

We have been back to school for just over a month now, and lots has been happening in Division 3.  We had the Terry Fox run, complete with our “ice-bucket-challenge” to celebrate the Chaffey-Burke community raising $4520.35 for cancer research.  Please take a look at the photos below for a funny reminder of how the staff at Chaffey stepped up to provide a GREAT incentive for students to raise so much money.

We have also gone on a field trip to Science World and learned a lot about the Canadian government and elections, in conjunction with the upcoming Federal Election on October 19th.  We will be hosting our own Chaffey-Burke Election beginning next week, stay tuned for more details.

It’s going to be a great year!
