Hello Division 5 families, and welcome to our classroom blog.

We will post things here about our learning activities from time to time. I am also planning to do a quick “preview” post on Fridays to give a brief idea of the week to come. This sometimes makes it easier to engage your child in a conversation about their school day when you can ask them about specific activities.

All Week:

  • Reading Assessment Conferences to determine reading goals
  • Math: Sequences and T-Tables

Monday:

  • Terry Fox run
  • Computer Lab: Career Education and Goal Setting

Tuesday

  • Music
  • Language Arts and Art activities for Orange Shirt Day
  • Gym (possibly outside if weather cooperates)

Wednesday

  • Orange Shirt Day
  • Library
  • introduction to community and management jobs in the City Game (a notice will be coming home explaining more about this year long classroom structure)

Thursday

  • No School for National Day of Reconciliation

Friday

  • “My Name” activity in Language Arts
  • Music
  • Gym

Hello Division 6 families; we are starting to use our educational technology more and more, integrating it into our curricular work. Occasionally, I will be asking students to access their Office 365 accounts or their blogfolios from home.

These are a couple of resources to check in case you or your child run into difficulty….Of course, I will always answer emails about tech support whenever possible! 🙂

Today we began working on our classroom charter by inviting everyone to write their ideas about how we would like to feel when we are at school. It was a big, messy brainstorm on the whiteboard full of words and checkmarks beside them where kids agreed with what had been suggested.

Then we organized the words and tallied up the number of checkmarks to see what the most important things were to us. Our next steps will be to discuss how we will agree to treat each other at school so that we can achieve these feelings. These agreements will form our Classroom Charter. Here is what we have so far…check back for updates!

You have landed on the Stoney Creek Division 6 Classroom Blog homepage! Here we will occasionally share classroom news and events from our learning together.

We will also be using our “blogfolios” for documenting our growth in learning. We can self-assess, our teachers can offer feedback, and our families can see all the things we know, do, and understand! Ms. McQueen will be sending a note to families with more information about blogfolios once these are up and running…stay tuned.

In the meantime, here is a funny video about handwashing that we have been enjoying in class…hope you like it, too!

Hi everyone, I sure miss seeing your happy faces at school and all of our great conversations, but I’m so grateful that we can stay connected through technology while we are keeping ourselves and our families safe and healthy.

I just wanted to let you know what the plan is for this week:

  • Today the teachers will meet with Mr. Hiltz through our computers so we can do some planning for how to learn together when we aren’t in the same building
  • I will be contacting all the families in our class Thursday (tomorrow) and Friday to find out more about what will work best for you to learn from home
  • By Monday, I’ll have an outline for our learning activities posted/sent out for April 6 – 10

In the meantime, here is link to Continuing Learning in Burnaby where you can find ideas for learning activities to keep you engaged in learning. There is a link for parents and a link for students. Pick a few activities from the grade 3 and 4 sections that look interesting to you and try to complete a few by the weekend.

Try to get outside today and enjoy the sun (while staying away from others, of course!)
