Student of the Week Duties

During this special week, your child will be featured on a bulletin board outside our classroom. Throughout the week, your child will be given opportunities to share aspects of his or her life with the class. Here is a schedule of events:

Over the Weekend, please help your child to design a display using the big yellow poster page that he or she brought home today. This display might include: family photos, pictures of places he or she has been, original artwork or writing, awards or anything else your child would like to share. Your child may use glitter, crayons, markers or whatever else you can round up to decorate their poster. He or she may also want to write a sentence about each of the items on the poster board.  Please help your child fill out the attached Star of the Week form and return the completed form and poster by Monday.  I will return the pictures and items to you on the following Monday.

Monday

The Student of the Week shares his or her poster and Information Sheet and they are put on display on the hallway bulletin board.

Tuesday

The Student of the Week will bring in a favourite collection, special toy, or family momento to share with the class. They will tell the class about the item(s) and explain why it is important to them and/or their family.

Wednesday

The Student of the Week brings in a favourite book to share with the class. They will do a brief book talk about the book. They should be prepared to talk about why they like this particular book and share their favourite part of the story or a favourite picture.  I will read the book aloud to the class at story time.

Thursday

The Student of the Week is in charge! For 20 minutes the Super Star gets to choose one of the following activities for the whole class:

 The Student of the Week may teach the class something (e.g. a new song, how to make an origami bird, how to count to ten in another language, how to draw a favourite cartoon character etc.) If your child makes this choice, please help him or her to plan what he or she will teach and assemble any teaching materials needed.

 The Student of the Week may design a puzzle for the class to solve. This could be a word search, secret code, maze or other puzzle. If your child makes this selection, please be sure he or she brings it to school in the morning so we have time to make copies for the class.

Friday

Parent Letter: Parents please write a letter to the class telling us how special your child is to you. Send the letter in a sealed envelope to school with your child, and I will read the letter to the class. The content of the letter is up to you, but you may want to choose from the following ideas: Describe special or funny stories about your child for the class to hear, write a silly or serious poem about your child, tell us some neat things we may not know about your child, send silly or special pictures with a letter describing the pictures, or write a short story with your child as the main character.

Please help your child to select meaningful and appropriate things to share.

Thank you for helping us honour your child as Student of the Week!
