{"id":7554,"date":"2022-01-13T05:42:58","date_gmt":"2022-01-13T13:42:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/ignasv\/?p=7554"},"modified":"2022-01-13T05:45:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-13T13:45:05","slug":"michael-smith-science-challenge-competition-takes-place-on-feb-15-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/ignasv\/2022\/01\/13\/michael-smith-science-challenge-competition-takes-place-on-feb-15-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"Michael Smith Science Challenge Competition  takes place on Feb. 15, 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/outreach.phas.ubc.ca\/exams-and-competitions\/michael-smith-challenge\/mssc-english\/\">The 2022 Michael Smith Science Challenge Competition takes place on Feb. 15, 2022.<\/a><\/h2>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Michael Smith Science Challenge is a bilingual national competition written by students in Grade 10 Science or lower. <\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It emphasizes logical thinking and covers material in the science curriculum common to all provinces. <\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is named in honour of <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nobelprize.org\/prizes\/chemistry\/1993\/smith\/biographical\/\" target=\"new.window\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UBC\u2019s Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Michael Smith<\/a>\u00a0and is sponsored by the <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.science.ubc.ca\/\" target=\"new.window\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UBC Faculty of Science<\/a>. <\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Prizes are awarded to the top students (and their teachers) in each province, territory, and nationally.<\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>The 2022 Challenge will be run entirely online \u2013 students will complete the challenge entirely online at school or at home \u2013 depending on local circumstances and at the discretion of the teacher. <\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>No teacher invigilation is required.\u00a0Teachers with questions regarding the challenge can contact <a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"mailto:mschall@phas.ubc.ca\">mschall@phas.ubc.ca<\/a> for more information.<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center\">The 2022 official writing day is Tuesday, February 15, 2022<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>This challenge will be a one-hour, timed contest\u00a0to be started and completed between 06:00-20:00 Pacific Standard Time.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<h3>Students need to register with their teacher to participate in the competion. \u00a0The exam is written online. \u00a0Please see your science teacher to register before Jan. 21, 2022.<\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/outreach.phas.ubc.ca\/files\/2021\/04\/MS21E.pdf\">Interested? \u00a0Take a look at the 2021 competition.<\/a><\/h3>\n<h2>Prizes<\/h2>\n<p><em>We reserve the right not to give a provincial prize if the top mark from that province is lower than the national average, or if less than 20 students or three schools participate from that province.
