The first mini-debate questioned whether the Space Race in the 1960s \u2014 including the Apollo missions, which put the first man on the moon \u2014 proved that humans belong in space.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.cbc.ca\/i\/caffeine\/syndicate\/?mediaId=1539416643800\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mini-debate 2: The golden era of robotic exploration<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Robotic exploration of the solar system\u00a0started in the 1960s with the former Soviet Union&#8217;s\u00a0Venera and Zond missions and the American Mariner missions. By 2015, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/technology\/new-horizons-ultima-thule-1.4949381\"><u>NASA&#8217;s New Horizons spacecraft<\/u><\/a> flew past Pluto, automated explorers had successfully visited every planet in the solar system. Does the success of robots\u00a0mark the end of\u00a0human exploration\u00a0in space?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Mini-debate 3: Commercial space travel<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Entrepreneurs like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have ambitious plans for commercial space travel and colonization of the planets.
