This past November, we were kept busy with two major projects: our ADST bridges, and our Literature Circle meetings and final projects. Check out the slideshow below to see some pictures of students in action building their bridges, as well as a couple of the final projects. Ours ‘hats are off’ to Tianna and Bernice, who created the winning bridge this year! It was so strong that Mr. Bernard needed to get out extra weights to add to it, as he just couldn’t get it to break! There were very sturdy bridges throughout our class!
In Language Arts, we have completed our first round of Literature Circles. We met weekly to discuss and share about the books we were reading, and then created “Character Containers” to represent one of our favourite characters. We set up our work in the library for a couple of weeks… ask your child about which character they wrote about/created symbols for! The containers went home this week, so hopefully you have seen them.

Mr. Helmut Lemke tells us his story
Today, Division 1 and 2 have the privilege of meeting Mr. Helmut Lemke, a World War 2 veteran who fought with the Germans in Soviet Territory. We heard about how terrible war is, and about what life was life before and after the war. We were shocked to hear that Mr. Lemke has seen Adolf Hitler in person, and learned about the geography of Europe pre and post the Second World War. Life was different back then, but one thing remains the same: we must celebrate our diversity, accept each others’ difference, and learn to live in peace. Thank you, Mr. Lemke.
Dear Students in Division 1 and 2,
A reminder that we are scheduled to have our guest presenter, Mr. Helmut Lemke, come talk to us tomorrow afternoon. Mr. Lemke is a World War 2 vet, who fought in the German Army in the 1940’s. More information about him, including the audio of him telling part of his story, can be found on this website:
Parents/Guardians: please ask your child about Mr. Lemke’s story tomorrow evening; I am sure there will be many things to share.

Dear Parents and Guardians of students in Division 2,
Ms. H couldn’t resist!
Thank you so much for stopping by! It was great to meet most of you recently during our “Parents as Partners” conferences, and for those of you who were unable to come, please know that my door is always open and I look forward to meeting you when you are able to drop in. We will do our best to update this website from time to time, with stories and information about what Division 2 is up to… but you can count on the homework page will be updated on a regular basis. Students are expected to write in their planners, however, we do know that from time to time these are forgotten… so feel free to check the website to have a conversation with your child about what they are currently working on at school. Please email me any time, at Lindsay.Holliday@burnabyschools.ca if you have any questions, concerns, or other information you think I should know. I look forward to teaching your child this year, alongside Ms. Renner (Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons)!
