This is a self-paced challenge to answer 20 questions based on ideas we have been exploring since January – music notation, note names, rhythmic values, and instruments of the orchestra. You have until Friday, May 29th noon<\/strong> to play, and you can play as many times as you like to improve your score. It is not a timed game, but you do earn points for speed as well as accuracy. You can use your own name or create a musical nickname for yourself so only you know who you are! You can play on any device such as computers, tablets, iPads or smartphones.<\/p>\n

Here’s an activity that I think you’ll enjoy and find super easy. I had lots of fun playing with it myself!<\/p>\n

Each key (or letter) on your keyboard has a different sound (sample).<\/p>\n

Type different combinations of letters or words into the box to create beats. The program will automatically loop back to the beginning and repeat your pattern.<\/p>\n

When you find a beat you like, sing a song you know over top,
\nor better yet, write your own song!<\/p>\n

PRO TIP<\/span> \u2013 Most pop, rock and North American\/European
\nfolk music is in 4\/4 time so try using a multiple of 4
\n(eg. 4, 8, 12, etc.) characters to make a beat that
\nwould fit with popular music or other songs you may already know.<\/p>\n

VOCABULARY<\/span>:
\nPercussion\/percussive sounds<\/strong> \u2013 Sounds made by hitting\/striking things<\/p>\n

Beat<\/strong> \u2013 the steady pulse that you feel in the music<\/p>\n

Rhythm<\/strong> – actual sound or time value of the notes<\/p>\n

Sample<\/strong> – a short recording of a sound. Eg. one drum noise<\/p>\n
