{"id":170,"date":"2020-05-14T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2020-05-14T16:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/?p=170"},"modified":"2020-05-13T17:58:39","modified_gmt":"2020-05-14T00:58:39","slug":"activities-for-thursday-may-14-2020-poetry-and-zoom-math","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/2020\/05\/14\/activities-for-thursday-may-14-2020-poetry-and-zoom-math\/","title":{"rendered":"Activities for Thursday May 14, 2020: Poetry and Zoom Math"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Happy Thursday, Division 10!\u00a0 I hope you have all had a great week so far!\u00a0 Yesterday was a bit rainy but I hope you had a chance to get some fresh air anyways!\u00a0 Today we will be working on poetry and have our Zoom Math sessions this afternoon.\u00a0 Here are today&#8217;s activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1)\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Acrostic Poetry-<\/span> an acrostic poem uses one word that is written vertically and then each of those letters has a word or sentence written about it that starts with that letter.\u00a0 The words or sentences need to focus on the letter that is written vertically.\u00a0 For example, if the word is &#8220;BOOK&#8221;, each of the lines needs to have a sentence that talks about books in some way.\u00a0 I have created an example with the word &#8220;RAIN&#8221;.\u00a0 Check it out below!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-171\" src=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-676x901.jpg 676w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-1320x1760.jpg 1320w, http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Acrostic-Example-scaled.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>You will notice that all my sentences focus on the topic of rain and each sentence begins with the next letter in the word &#8220;rain&#8221;.\u00a0 It&#8217;s your turn!\u00a0 A) Brainstorm sentences that connect to the word &#8220;SPRING&#8221; (ex. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">S<\/span>unshine heats up our classroom in May and June).\u00a0 You need to have a sentence for each letter in the word &#8220;SPRING&#8221;.\u00a0 Write &#8220;SPRING&#8221; vertically on a piece of paper and come up with some sentences that start with each letter.\u00a0 If you want another idea of how to write an acrostic poem, watch this video *<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5gVOeA7aqM0&amp;t=5s\">HERE<\/a>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>B) Once you have come up with your sentences and checked the writing for sentence sense, spelling, and proper capital and period usage, you can then create your good copy.\u00a0 The good copy page can be found below:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/edwardsd\/files\/2020\/05\/Spring-Acrostic-Poem.docx\">Spring Acrostic Poem<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then if you would like, decorate the page and then email it to me!\u00a0 Thank you!\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2) <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Zoom Math-<\/span> grade 2&#8217;s: 1 PM (we will continue to work on borrowing), grade 3&#8217;s: 2 PM (we will continue to work on division).
