{"id":7110,"date":"2024-02-05T13:22:05","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T21:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/deterraa\/?p=7110"},"modified":"2024-02-05T13:22:05","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T21:22:05","slug":"new-unit-the-way-we-move-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/sd41blogs.ca\/deterraa\/2024\/02\/05\/new-unit-the-way-we-move-3\/","title":{"rendered":"New Unit: The Way We Move"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello Everyone,<\/p>\n<p>We are in the process of finishing up our last unit projects, so now we will begin a new inquiry unit called\u00a0<em>The Way We Move!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Unit Focus Statement:<\/strong>\u00a0Migration is a response to challenges, risks, survival, and a natural need to explore.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Concepts:<\/strong>\u00a0EXPLORATION, IDENTITY<\/p>\n<p><strong>Core Competency Focus:<\/strong>\u00a0Positive Personal &amp; Cultural Identity<\/p>\n<p><strong>Areas of Inquiry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The nature of exploration<\/li>\n<li>The reasons people move throughout the world<\/li>\n<li>Human migration and its impact on Canada, indigenous cultures, and the world<\/li>\n<li>The similarities between humanity and other animals as related to migration<\/li>\n<li>Our own personal and cultural identity as a result of migration<\/li>\n<li>Geography and maps<\/li>\n<li>Multiplicative Thinking &amp; Tiny House Math Projects (Area, Perimeter, Multiplication, Division) related to how a home can represent what is most important to us<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>We look forward to\u2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Doing exploration of our identity, of our outside spaces, and more through the use of careful observation and documentation skills<\/li>\n<li>Studying migratory birds and other animals and tracking their journeys<\/li>\n<li>Presenting our personal TED Talks about our passions and continuing our language arts work on paragraphing, using descriptive vocabulary, and writing clear sentences<\/li>\n<li>Creating a class map of our own family\u2019s migration paths<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing community members about immigration stories<\/li>\n<li>Doing a group research timeline on how we all came to be in Canada, then writing mini monologues to present some of the key figures and events from our history<\/li>\n<li>Making a Quilt of Belonging piece representative of our Cultural Background\/Identity<\/li>\n<li>Reading and analyzing books\/stories related to immigration and refugees<\/li>\n<li>Discussing immigration policies in Canada, and then making our own immigration policy for a made-up location<\/li>\n<li>Doing activities and games related to multiplication, division, and geometry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Plans may change depending on time.
