Next week, we will reveal our soloists for the songs we have been rehearsing in Corovoce.   I hope you’re beginning to commit our repertoire to memory.  The blending of your voices was fantastic last Monday! We are proud!

Welcome to January!

Dear Corovoce Singers:

What an uplifting rehearsal we had yesterday!  I particularly enjoyed Doraji.  Your tone, and precise pronunciation was so lovely to our ears!  We are very excited about our repertoire!  Just a few reminders about next week:

  1. For Corovoce, we have our regular rehearsal next Monday……but…..singers who signed up for participating in the National Orff Conference (Constellation) will stay behind, have some pizza and a drink, and meet all the students participating in Constellation!  We will end at 7:00 p.m. sharp!  If you have not indicated your interest in being a part of this group, please do so before this Friday.  The consent form is in the previous post.  Please sign, scan, and email it to me by Friday.
  2. We cannot stress enough the importance of focused practice between rehearsals.  I would be committing Doraji to memory so we can work on the 3 part arrangement.  You should also be solidifying your part in I Dreamed of Rain (1st verse).  Think about whether you’d like a solo for Blue Skies, or You Raise Me Up, or I Dreamed of Rain.  Listen to the songs on the blog and be ready for some auditions next week.

We look forward to beginning our journey on Constellation next week!  In the meantime, stay safe from the snow, rain, ice, and have a lovely week!

Mr. Nguyen, Ms. Ishii, Mrs. Fierro, Caeden and Kurtis.

Our first joint rehearsal is the following Monday, January 22.  If you are in Corovoce and are staying for the rehearsal, we will provide pizza and drinks for you in between rehearsals.  The Orff Rehearsal will run from 5:30 to 7:00 on the 22nd.

Monday, December 4 – “A Holly Jolly Holiday” Concert at Michael J Fox Theatre at Burnaby South

Singers need to be there sharply at 3:30.  We will rehearse until 4:30 and then parents need to collect their children for a break, snack, rest, and to change into their outfits for the concert. (see below)

Singers need to return to MJF by 6:15.

Concert begins promptly at 6:30, and will be finished by 7:45.

Please Note:

  1.  At this time, there will be a limit of 2 tickets per family.  You can pay by school online cash in the same place you paid your registration fees.  Tickets are $10 each.  We may have some extras at the door, but this is not guaranteed.
  2. Students need to wear white collared shirts and black pants, or skirts with black shoes for the concert.  I would suggest you begin looking now for your outfit.   It is also important that your hair be styled neatly and away from your face, or tied back, in order for the audience to see you!  A touch of make-up (blush, lip gloss) is also a good idea, but not necessary.

FEEDBACK FORM FOR OUR GUEST CONDUCTOR

The Vancouver Chamber Choir would like some feedback from the session with Dinah.  I will be handing out forms next Monday, but you’re welcome to download the copy below and hand it in this Monday if you like.

Thank you Dinah and Anne!

November 1, 2023

I hope everyone enjoyed our session with Dinah and Anne from the Vancouver Chamber Choir!  Thank you Justin for setting this up!  It was wonderful to learn from an expert!  Christmas Angel was particularly beautiful to listen to and we appreciate all your hard work on this lovely song!  When the Snow Begins to Fall is really coming together, we just need to work on words, and dynamics.  A la Media Noche will be a bright and lively song in our repertoire and your Spanish is “muy buena”.  (very good)  We will touch on these pieces on Monday and work more on The Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth and Joyeaux Noel and our opening and closing numbers.  Keep practising Corovoce, we are amazing!

Silent Night with Signed English

October 24, 2023

Hello Singers!

It’s that spooky time of year for music teachers!  We are happily singing Halloween/Fall songs, we’re practising solemn Remembrance Day songs, and looking at Christmas repertoire, all at the same time!  Here are a few updates for tomorrow and the weeks to come.

Silent Night with ASL signed English

As our finale, we will be signing and singing Silent Night at our Holly Jolly Holiday Concert.

Click here to practice the signs.

Vancouver Chamber Choir and the Great Pumpkin are coming October 30!

For all good little boys and ghouls, we will be working with singers from the Vancouver Chamber Choir that rehearsal, specifically Christmas Angel.  Our thanks to Ms. Fletcher for auditioning our soloists.  We will reveal the soloists tomorrow.  The Great Pumpkin will also be coming on October 30.

Our rehearsal tomorrow will focus on:

The chorus for Christmas Angel and a review of the underlying parts over our soloists in the verses.  I do hope you have solidified this.

The Spanish for A la Media Noche.  We will work on the pronunciation and the part singing.

We will finish The Snow Begins to Fall and expect this one to be put to bed this week.

Signing for Silent Night will be presented and then you will need to rehearse using the video above.

If time, we will learn more of Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy.

This is just a reminder that any parts we go over in rehearsal are expected to be learned by the next rehearsal.  It is the only way we can move forward and present new music to you.  We want these songs to be memorized quickly so we can really sing from our hearts.  Keep practising at home Corovoce!  We will be amazing!

Stay tuned for more information around our Christmas Concert, “A Holly Jolly Holiday”
