<\/a><\/p>\nWhat is something really fun you got to do this week? What details would you need to draw in a picture of it? How would you tell it as a story to me if we were sharing in Community Circle? How did you feel when you got to be silly?<\/p>\n

On Tuesday my uncle retired from his job as Assistant Fire Chief of West Vancouver, after over 31 years of service<\/strong>. We drove to his house and sat in his carport, eating cupcakes and sitting far away from one another. Even though I couldn’t hug him, I was still able to tell him that I am so proud of him. Here is a video<\/a> of what we all looked like (my uncle, me, my brother, and my two cousins)(there is no sound to the video), bundled up and playing with balloons! If I wrote a poem about my day, I might say:<\/p>\n Carport Retirement Party!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n My brother is six feet and one inch tall<\/p>\n Which doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, at all<\/p>\n Until all of a sudden<\/p>\n I can’t even hug him<\/p>\n And it makes me feel far away.<\/p>\n We’re all here in the driveway<\/p>\n Celebrating a really BIG <\/b>day<\/p>\n In kind of an unexpected and funny way.<\/p>\n I’m so proud of my uncle and all he has done<\/p>\n And now he is retired he will have lots of fun!<\/p>\n Even though I’m really sad I can’t hug him<\/p>\n He knows how much we all love him<\/p>\n And that we’ll just celebrate again a SECOND TIME<\/p>\n – Without a rhyme – so we can hug and…<\/p>\n …maybe still play with balloons!<\/em><\/p>\n Think about something YOU would share about your week, and come up with a way of telling your story! Could you act it out with a stuffed animal? Could you create a scene out of Lego? Could you draw it? Think of a way to tell someone about something fun and silly without writing it down using words. Or by writing down your words in a different way? In my poem, I used rhymes and played with making words\u00a0BIG\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0sideways\u00a0<\/em>to make them stand out. How could you make special words in your story stand out? Can you point out a way special words stand out in a book you are reading?
