Gr. 5/6

May 26th – 5th round of activities (Gr. 5/6)

  1. Pick a song from the following playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpXA1IqBgeZROfhsGkUE2HrFGN7bKqgpF. Play along with your chosen song in an improvised fashion with any instruments or objects that you have at home. Submit a video of you playing along to your chosen song.
  2. Compose a short melody using the following online tool (make sure to select your grade level). If you have a melodic instrument at home that you can play, such as recorder or piano, play your composition on the instrument. Submit a recording that shows your composition, with you playing it on an instrument if possible: https://musicplayonline.com/activities/melody_compose/exercises/staff_composition/menu/menu.html.
  3. Pick a favourite song. Write your own lyrics to go with the song, to be sung with the same tune as the vocals of the original. Your lyrics should be about Covid-19, the experiences that you’ve had as a result of the lockdown, and the way you see that the world has changed because of it. Please make sure your words are nicely organized without any strong language. After you’ve re-written the words choose one of the following:
  • Send a copy of the words (a word document would be great but a picture of the words handwritten is fine), with a reference for the song for which you’re replacing the lyrics.
  • Send a recording of yourself singing the song with your lyrics. If you can find an instrumental (no singing) version of the song that’s great (karaoke-versions of songs on Youtube are good for this), but it’s ok to sing along to the original song as long as we can hear your words clearly over the words sung in the recording.
  1. Complete any previously posted activities that you have not yet done.

How to submit work

Please submit work through one of the following three methods:

  1. Comment on any of the blog posts (if comments are to show on the blog site I have to ‘approve’ them, so I can just not approve your comment and view the work at my end).
  2. Email it to me at adrian.clift@burnabyschools.ca
  3. For large file submissions add them to Google Drive and invite Mr. Clift through the ‘share’ option.
  4. Also for large file submissions, Mr. Clift can add you to a Microsoft Team where you can upload the file in the “Assignments” tab.

If you need assistance with submitting work please email me at Adrian.clift@burnabyschools.ca
