Week of June 1st – 5th, 2020

LANGUAGE ARTS

NOTE:  These activities are the last activities you will get in this format. 

 

*Please note, not all pages need to be printed.  If you do not have access to a printer, you can do your work in a notebook.  Pages that could be printed will be labelled with *P.

 

Learning objectives 

  • I can identify high-frequency words by sight.  (Word solving: Identify Words 2.1)
  • I can use phonic knowledge and skills to read unfamiliar words in context. (Use strategies and cues 2.1)
  • I can write, represent and tell brief narratives about my own ideas and experiences.

 

  1. Copy the new spelling words into your dictionary (black duo-tang)

(All spelling pages have been merged for your convenience.  Remember, not all pages need to be printed.  You can choose the pages that you would like printed.)

 

  1. Rhyme Time (Blue booklet)

-Watch the videos and add some words to your Rhyme Time booklet.  If you are having a hard time coming up with additional words, look for words around the house, in books, and even online!

 

  1. Printing

-Practice printing your letters.  Remember, correct formation is key!  Ask a parent to see if you are doing this neatly and correctly!

 

  1. Listening Center

-During Guided Reading, students have been participating in a “Listening Center”.  Please listen to this story and try some of the follow-up activities.

  1. Poem

-Practice reading this poem aloud.  You can also print out this poem and do these extra activities for practice.

  • Highlight the beginning and end of the sentence.
  • Circle and colour the word “seeds” with green.
  • Circle and colour any spelling words we have studied with red.
  • Circle and colour any words that rhyme with blue.

  1. Journal Writing

-Please be sure to encourage your child to add supporting details to their writing.  Students should be able to write 4 to 6 sentences independently. They should be able to include: capital letters, punctuation, finger spaces, word wall words spelled correctly, and 4 – 6  related sentences on their topic.

 

Journal Writing Prompt Ideas 

  • Write about your favourite grade 1 memory.
  • Write about the best vacation you ever had.  Why was it so special?
  • If you could be any animal, what would you be?  Describe what it would be like to be that animal.
  • Imagine that you can become invisible whenever you want to.  What are some of the things you would do?
  • Choose your own topic.
