A\u00a0<\/span>paragraph<\/strong>\u00a0is made up of a group of sentences<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span> A paragraph<\/strong> focuses on one topic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Paragraph \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/b> =\u00a0 <\/span>topic sentence<\/span> \u00a0 <\/span>+<\/span> \u00a0 <\/span>supporting sentences<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>+<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>concluding sentence<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>topic sentence<\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is the first<\/em> sentence<\/span>, and it<\/span>\u00a0introduces the main topic of your paragraph.\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>It is the\u00a0<\/span>bun on<\/span>\u00a0the top of your hamburger.<\/span>)
\n<\/span>example: There are many ways I stay safe and healthy at home.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>supporting sentences<\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>are the middle<\/em> sentences of your paragraph, and they are sentences that\u00a0<\/span>tell us more details and information about your topic.\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>These middle supporting sentences make up all the ingredients inside your hamburger.<\/span>)<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>example: First of all, I wash my hands often with soap and water before I cook or eat.\u00a0 Also, I spend time outside in my own backyard playing volleyball and gardening. The\u00a0<\/span>concluding sentence<\/i><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>is the last<\/em> sentence of your paragraph, and it summarizes\u00a0<\/span>or retells\u00a0<\/span>what your paragraph was about.\u00a0<\/span>(<\/span>T<\/span>his last sentence is the same as the bun on the bottom<\/span>\u00a0of the hamburger.<\/span>)<\/span> \u00a0<\/span> \u00a0<\/span> \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 example: This is how I can stay safe and healthy at home.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Remember these important steps when writing!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

step 1 –\u00a0 \u00a0Brainstorm\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

– use only main\/key words or phrases when brainstorming<\/p>\n

– you can use this 4 square<\/a> or make your own by folding a piece of paper into half lengthwise and then width wise<\/p>\n

step 2\u00a0 – Write your Paragraph<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

– remember to write full sentences for your topic sentence, supporting sentences and concluding sentence<\/p>\n

– look at your brainstorm and make sure you use all your ideas on your 4-square<\/p>\n

-you can write your paragraph on your own piece of paper from home or use this paragraph plan sheet <\/a>or this other hamburger paragraph sheet<\/a>.<\/p>\n
