What is a Paragraph? \u00a0<\/strong><\/h4>\n

A paragraph<\/strong> is made up of a group of sentences. \u00a0 A paragraph<\/strong> focuses on one topic<\/p>\n

Paragraph<\/strong> = \u00a0\u00a0 topic sentence<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 + \u00a0\u00a0 supporting sentences<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 + \u00a0\u00a0 concluding sentence<\/span><\/p>\n

Let’s take a look at this video.\u00a0 It uses a “hamburger paragraph<\/strong>” to help us remember all the different parts of a paragraph.\u00a0 click here for the video<\/a><\/p>\n

Writing a Paragraph:<\/b><\/p>\n

Paragraph<\/strong> = \u00a0 topic sentence \u00a0\u00a0<\/span> + \u00a0\u00a0 supporting sentences \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span> + \u00a0\u00a0 concluding sentence<\/span><\/p>\n

The topic sentence<\/span><\/em><\/strong> is the first sentence, and it introduces the main topic of your paragraph. (It is the bun on the top of your hamburger.)
\nexample: On my nature walk, I saw many beautiful things in my neighbourhood.
\n<\/span>
\nThe supporting sentences<\/span><\/em><\/strong> are the middle sentences of your paragraph, and they are sentences that tell us more details and information about your topic. (These middle supporting sentences make up all the ingredients inside your hamburger.)
\nexample: First of all, I saw many Spring flowers in my garden.\u00a0 I saw yellow daffodils and purple heather with a bumble bee on it too!\u00a0<\/strong> (if you look very closely)<\/span><\/p>\n

example: Then, I walked across the street near our ravine. I discovered salmonberry bushes with mini bright pink flowers .\u00a0<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

example: <\/span>Lastly, I walked past my park at the end of street, and we crossed over the mini bridge to go back home.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The concluding sentence<\/span><\/strong><\/em> is the last sentence of your paragraph, and it summarizes or retells what your paragraph was about. (This last sentence is the same as the bun on the bottom of the hamburger.)
