Explanatory paragraphs give information or explains something to the reader.

Here is an example of an Explanatory paragraph, that explains how to make a rice krispies cake.

A Rice Krispies Birthday Cake

This is how we made a rice krispies birthday cake. First of all, warm up a quarter (1/4 cup) of butter and 5 cups of mini marsh mellows in the microwave, for 2 minutes or until all is melted. Remember to use a glass container when using the microwave.  Then, take out the container and whip the melted marshmellow and butter with a large wooden spoon, for 2-3 minutes or until it’s fluffy.  Afterwards, add 6 cups of rice krispies and mix everything together well.   Next, scoop into a square or round pan. Use a spoon to smooth out the top to make it flat.  Finally, you can cut up the rice krispies into any shape you like!

**We were looking for a gluten free birthday cake so we made this at home for our daughter turning 14!  We also added extra ingredients such as sunflower seeds, shredded coconut and dried cranberries.  For special celebrations, we sometimes add sprinkles or mini chocolate chips, and mix it all together before pouring everything in the pan.  We had also cut the rice krispies into a number 14 to make our special birthday cake!**
