Bonjour! I apologize for the late post this week. Here is an update of what Division 9 was busy with November 1-5th.<\/p>\n

Division 9 students worked very hard this week! They were helpful with class jobs, determined and focused writers, and enthusiastic for math games!<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\"In Math, we practiced addition facts with an adaptation of a classic game of Go Fish. This time, instead of searching for pairs, students were asked to find numbers that when added to or subtracted from one another would equal 10. Go Fish for Ten was a popular game and students requested more time to play. We also worked in our math journals after reading a book called \u00c7a fait 10!<\/em><\/p>\n

We learned a little bit about Dia de los Muertos on Tuesday, and about Diwali on Thursday. In addition to class discussion and other stories, we watched the videos here: Dia de los Muertos<\/a> and Des lumi\u00e8res pour Gita<\/a>. Students were excited to share what they already knew about these celebrations, and curious to learn more. Thank you very much<\/strong> for sending glass jars for students to use for our Diwali art project! Along with the Grade 1 class, the Grade 3 big buddies made colourful lanterns to light up for Diwali, the festival of light that celebrates the triumph of good over evil.\"\"<\/p>\n

For journal writing, students reflected on the celebrations and foods of their own family cultures. We learned that celebrations and traditions, food, and language are some of the elements of culture, and will be learning about more elements next week! I will be sending home a worksheet for you to complete with your child at home next week, to write down notes for a discussion on the elements of culture of your families. Your child is going to be reflecting on their own culture and sharing this learning with others in the classroom. We will be creating flipbooks in class based on conversations you have with your child at home.<\/p>\n

For grammar work, we learned about les d\u00e9terminants (or articles) and practiced identifying noun groups with an article and noun.<\/p>\n

We had three more fabulous\u00a0Scientifiques de la semaine share their science experiments this week. They presented with confidence and preparedness.<\/p>\n

In Physical Education, we practiced passing skills for volleyball.<\/p>\n

\"\"We are continuing to feed the composting worms for \u00c9cole Brantford’s garden. Some students have shown a great interest in these amazing little creatures! If you have fruit or vegetable scraps to share with the worms, please send them to school any day. Please see this post to know what foods are allowed:<\/p>\n
