Hello families!

This week flew by, with a Pro-D day on Monday, and Sports Day on Friday. I hope that everyone had a fabulous time competing in the 10 stations of challenges. Bravo to all the participants! Three cheers for the Red, Yellow, Green and Blue teams!

In Math, we explored 3D shapes using modelling clay and toothpicks to make nets of prisms and pyramids. We also made observations of the amounts, people and symbols on money from around the world before beginning to design our own Division 9 currency. Next week, students will be earning “wages” for completing their class jobs, and will have opportunities to “buy” materials for projects.

In Science, we learned about food chains and food webs, and where our animals fit into their communities. We used drawings to represent what we learned, and then made fun mobiles showing the relationships of predators and prey.

We finally began a Social Studies unit focusing on Indigenous peoples of the West Coast. Though we only have a few weeks left of class, we will try to get in all the learning we can in the time we have left. We looked at images of different technologies of coastal nations and made predictions for their uses before learning what they actually are for. Students had great predictions based on their observations and their prior knowledge.

In French, we continued our story writing. Most students have published their stories, which meant they brainstormed, drafted, revised, conferenced, before copying out their story in their best writing, and adding illustrations if they chose. Great work, Grade 3s. I am so proud of your hard work!

Next week will be a full week of classes, with a walking field trip on Tuesday afternoon. Please remember to pack a water bottle, good shoes for walking, and weather-appropriate clothing, including a hat for sun protection if the weather is warm. Thank you to our parent volunteers who will be joining us on Tuesday to René Memorial Park.

I hope you have a great weekend, and that the sunshine stays around. Take care!
