Hello families!
Can you believe it is already June? This year has flown by, and we have plenty going on in the coming weeks. Please see this digital copy of our June newsletter if you have not already seen the paper copy: Brantford Division 9 Newsletter – June
This week in Math, we learned some of the vocabulary for geometry, and created colourful works of art inspired by tile designs from Portugal, Turkey and Mexico. We looked at examples of tiles from these countries, and looked for the polygons we could find in the designs. Then, we used geoboards and elastic bands to make our own designs, before transferring them to paper.
In Science, we completed our research of our animals’ diets, and used a Venn diagram to compare with a classmate. We read a fable called L’île du loup to learn about what would happen if even one animal were removed from an ecosystem. We learned that when the wolves were taken out of the ecosystem, the deer ate too much vegetation since they had no predators, which caused many issues for the rest of the animals on the island!
In French, we worked on our stories. Some students have already completed their “publication” of finished works. Others are nearing this stage, and it is exciting to read the fabulous stories everyone has come up with!
We have finished reading Robot sauvage. This book was an exciting and popular read! Unfortunately, we will not have time to read the sequel together this year, but it would be a fabulous book to read over the summer.
We had two more exciting sessions of the Young Actors Project. Students had many opportunities to use their creative muscles and voices to do improvisation. We learned many new games and many laughs!
We had team meetings for Sports Day (next Friday, June 10th) and decided on team names. This year’s theme is animals, so we have the Red Raptors, Green Gators, Yellow Rubber Ducks, and Blue Sharks. Please remember to bring lots of water next Friday, and note that it will be an early dismissal at 1:00. If able, students can dress in their team colours or animal print.
Library books are all due on Tuesday! Please take some time this weekend to look for any missing library books, so they may be returned on time. Thank you!
There is no school for students on Monday, June 6th, as it is a professional development day. Have a lovely weekend!
