Bonjour tout le monde,
In Science, we learned about our animals’ groups and wrote about why they belong to that category. We learned about different types of habitats, and in which ones our animals belong. To record our learning, we are creating books all about our animals and how they fit into the categories and ecosystems. The Grade 3s are working hard to put this all together, and have shown much collaboration and teamwork.
For Art, we painted the visual texture of our animal’s fur, feathers, scales or skin, and then drew the animal using oil pastel. These materials and techniques made for some gorgeous artworks! I wish I could frame them all!
In Math, we studied probability and practiced using vocabularly such as “plus/moins probable” (more/less likely), “possible”, “impossible”, “certain” and “incertain” (uncertain) to describe potential outcomes.
In French, we read folktales, and learned about the characteristics that they share. We noted that folktales (“les contes”) often begin with “Il était une fois…” or, “Once upon a time..”, that they often feature talking animals or fantastic creatures, and that they include a moral or life lesson. We then used these formulas to begin writing our own folktales – some are inspired by the animals we are studying in Science! We also recorded our readers’ theatre puppet performances, and I hope to be able to post these videos to share with you soon! (Technical difficulties have caused delays – thanks for your patience!)
For Grammar work, we had a quiz on prepositions and continued review of parts of speech. We have begun practice dictées using whole sentences. With these practice tests, I am looking for students’ understanding of general spelling rules (are they able to hear the sounds in the words?), understanding of singular and plural spelling conventions, and punctuation – Division 9 students are growing as writers! It is exciting to see this progress.
Monday, May 21 is Victoria Day. There will be no school.
Have a fantastic long weekend, everyone! Take care!
