Hello families of Division 9,
I hope that you all had a restful and joyful winter break! I truly hope that you were able to spend quality time with those who matter most to you, staying safe and healthy, and optimistic for the new year ahead.
As you are aware, the return to school has been delayed until January 10th. Brantford Staff will be in the building this week to prepare for the coming weeks with an updated health and safety plan.
There are many unknowns as to what the return to school and Term 2 will look like, and I will do my best to communicate with you as I learn the decisions from the Ministry of Education, Burnaby School District and Brantford administration. Please reach out if you have questions that I may be able to answer. At this time, I do not have much information, though will share with you whenever I am able.
Teachers have been asked to assess students’ access to electronics and internet at home, in the possibility that we end up learning remotely as we did in the spring of 2020. Please fill out this form to let me know what technology you have available at home: Internet and Technology Access Form Alternatively, please send me a reply to the email sent earlier this morning. Thank you so much!
There is no expectation that students complete assignments at home this week, but if you wish, here are a few suggestions of activities:
Outside:
- Go on a walk around your neighbourhood, playing an “I Spy” game for every colour of the rainbow.
- Before the snow melts, make a snow sculpture.
- Draw everything you can see outside your bedroom window. Be as detailed or as abstract as you like!
Math:
- Practice your skills on IXL.com
- Search for math in everyday life! Can you find it in your kitchen? In the newspaper? Where do numbers show up, and what information do they give us?
French:
- Practice phonics skills on lalilo.com. The school code is WUCQKY
- Read a book on boukili.ca. The class code is afdklv.
- Watch a show or play a game from CBC Kids (en francais, ici.radio-canada.ca ).
-
- https://ici.radio-canada.ca/jeunesse/scolaire (For school-aged kids, though the level of French may be challenging for Immersion students)
- https://ici.radio-canada.ca/jeunesse/prescolaire/ (Though for younger kids, the level of French may be more appropriate for Immersion students.)
For more online learning resources, please see the lists available on our class website (http://sd41blogs.ca/andersonm/online-learning-resources/ ) or on the blog from M. Hartnell (https://monsieurhartnell.blogspot.com/p/french-resources-for-students.html)
Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we work through these continued challenging times. We truly are all in this together.
Warmest regards,
Mme Anderson
