Weekly Assignments – April 28-May 1

My goodness! Can you believe it will be May at the end of the week? My mind is blown.

Weekly Assignments Chart – April 27-May1

I am sorry to add yet another platform for you to learn, but I have discovered that Microsoft Teams is more practical for submitting assignments than our blogfolios. Photo resolution is clearer, and there is the option for me to post documents which students can type into directly. Students may now post completed assignments through the Division 2 Teams account. Please see the post How to Check Assignments in Microsoft Teams for steps to viewing and submitting assignments through this platform.

I will continue to post updates and Weekly Assignments Charts on our class website, but will use Teams for students to submit assignments and partake in video calls. Only required assignments will be posted in Teams. If you complete other work, please feel free to post it on your blogfolio or attach it in an email!

For Math, you will need to watch the videos posted in the “How To…” section on our website, on Decimal Place Value and for Grade 6, Multiplying Decimal Numbers before completing the assigned work in you Math Makes Sense textbook Math 4.2: Grade 5: pg. 189, # 1-5; Grade 6: pg. 94, #1- 3 and MATH 4.3: Grade 5: pg.. 189, # 7; Grade 6: pg. 97 #3, 4. You can complete this on paper and upload a photo of your work in the assignment section on Teams.

We will officially begin our novel study this week (I am SO excited about it)! For the Literacy 4.1, you are asked to make inferences (informed assumptions) on the novel based only on the cover. I know we usually say “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but… what does the information on the cover tell you about the story?

Complete Literacy 4.1 first, and then you may listen to the first two chapters in this recorded PowerPoint:Front Desk Chapters 1&2 to complete Literacy 4.2 and 4.3. When you open the PowerPoint, please click “Slide Show” then “From Beginning” to hear hear me read the pages! *EDIT: if you are having trouble with the PowerPoint, here is a video recording of Chapters 1&2 instead:Video – Front Desk – Chapters 1&2 To access the PowerPoint or video, you will need your school email and password. Due to copyright permissions, the recordings should be password protected.

For Phys Ed 4.2, here are more instructions on the exercises: Mountain Climbers – Get into a push-up position and then alternate bringing your knee to your elbow. You can do same side connections or crisscross. The idea is to move fast. Bear Crawls – Palms and feet flat on the floor, arch your back so that you look like a momma bear. Race across the room. Star Jumps – Stand tall and then explosively jump into the air, expanding your legs and your arms so that you look like a large “X” in the air

For Social Studies 4.3, please watch this video on natural resources. The examples used remind me of the discussion we had with the Stream of Dreams presenters – everything we have has used water to help make it!

For Art 4.2, try creating an image inspired by everyday objects! See below for examples.

Message from Mrs. Nerpio: Here is a video message from Mrs. Nerpio from the library. In the video, you will see Mrs. Nerpio who misses you very much, go on a little tour, and check out how to find her brand new Library blog:

Today (Monday) is a Pro-D day, so I will not be able to facilitate our class meeting, but we will have our next on Wednesday at 11:00. I will be making weekly phone calls starting tomorrow. To those regularly scheduled on Mondays, I will call you on Friday this week instead. If the time in the schedule does not work for you, please let me know. As always, please reach out by email if you have any questions or concerns. I will do my best to respond as quickly as I can, though today I may be slower to respond due to Pro-D training sessions.

Finally, I hope you remember: you are amazing.

Sincerely,

Ms. Anderson
