December 2-6

Can you believe we are already through the first week of December?

This week, we continued building vocabulary to describe our families in French.

In Math, we practiced addition and subtraction of numbers in the ten thousands, and were challenged to show multiple ways of finding the answers to subtraction problems.  Open-ended questions help students to understand the relationships between numbers, not only memorize the steps to finding solutions.

We practiced researching skills and collaborative learning in Science, by working in our new table groups to find information on the respiratory and circulatory systems.  For those who would like, there will be a make-up quiz on the musculo-skeletal system on Monday.

In Social Studies, we learned about the consensus model of decision making.  We practiced this in deciding what reward to have for our class points.  From our experience, students worked in pairs to create their own “User’s Guide to Consensus Decision Making.”  We also learned about traditional (hereditary and consensus) and elected (democratic) First Nations governments, and how they have been changed due to the Indian Act.

This afternoon, we worked on sewing our Creature Dolls for ADST.  I am excited to see these little creatures come to life!

There is a lot going on in the school community over the next two weeks.  If you ordered baked goods fro the school fundraiser, please be sure to pick them up this Monday, between 2:00-2:30pm.  The items are frozen and must be picked up.

Next Friday, December 13th is the Holiday Market and Seasonal Crafts.

Wednesday, December 18th, will be the Festive Winter Assembly at 1:30pm.  Students have been asked to have their lyrics memorized by Monday’s Music class.  If you plan to attend, please return your ticket order form (green sheet) as soon as possible.

Friday, December 20th will be the Holiday Pancake Breakfast.  If you would like to volunteer, please return the form (pink sheet) by next Friday.  Thank you!

Have a cozy and restful weekend!  Stay warm in this rainy weather.
